Scott Lee, MD, PhD, MPA, MPhil
Scott S. Lee, MD, PhD, MPA, MPhil is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine, and a Faculty Affiliate of the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health. His research uses insights from behavioral and organizational economics to improve health behavior and health care delivery in the United States and in developing countries. He holds an MD/PhD in health policy and management from Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School and completed residency in internal medicine (primary care track) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Recent research projects include several field-based randomized controlled trials carried out in conjunction with the Governments of India and Zambia that evaluate the impact of various non-financial incentives, such as career opportunities, performance feedback, and self-tracking, on the performance of front-line health workers. His current research builds upon this work on provider incentives by designing and evaluating patient-side incentives to improve health behavior, with a focus on key drivers of cardiometabolic disease such as smoking, diet, and physical inactivity. Clinically, Dr. Lee is involved in efforts to improve care for patients with complex medical and social needs and works as both a hospitalist and a primary care physician with the Vanderbilt Familiar Faces program.
