A. Alex Jahangir, MD, MMHC
Dr. Alex Jahangir is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery and an orthopedic trauma surgeon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was appointed associate chief of staff at Vanderbilt University Hospital in 2014 and is the current deputy chair of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Medical Board. Dr. Jahangir also serves as the medical director of Vanderbilt Center for Trauma, Burn, and Emergency Surgery. Dr. Jahangir previously served as the medical director of the Patient Care Center at the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute.
Dr. Jahangir is the co-founder of the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Institute Center for Health Policy, is an author of over 70 publications and has lectured extensively on health policy as well as the delivery and business of healthcare throughout the country. He has served as a Washington Health Policy Fellow for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and as an AAOS Leadership Fellow. He serves on the executive committee of the AAOS Political Action Committee, and on the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Health Policy Committee. Dr. Jahangir was recently honored by Orthopaedics This Week, an international industry publication, as one of “19 of the Best Orthopaedic Traumatologists in North America”.
Dr. Jahangir received his Bachelors of Science from the George Washington University, his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee, and his Masters of Management in Healthcare from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN, and his orthopaedic trauma fellowship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Jahangir was raised in Nashville and is currently a board member of the Adventure Science Center, Healthy Tennessee, and ThinkTennessee. He resides in Nashville with his wife, Helen, and their three daughters.
