Vanderbilt Sets World Record for Heart Transplants
The Vanderbilt Transplant Center set a world record in 2024 by performing 174 adult and pediatric heart transplants. The number of patients whose lives were saved by Vanderbilt’s heart transplant team far surpasses any previous total by any transplant center.
More than 500 patients were referred for transplant consideration from 15 states. Many were individuals consider too high-risk for other centers to consider.
The number of heart transplants increased 36% from 2023. Ten of the 2024 transplants were in children cared for at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
