Vanderbilt’s Fellowship Program in Clinical Informatics is a two-year program with both didactic and rotational training. This two-year fellowship is open to physicians who are ABMS board certified or board eligible in a primary specialty (e.g. Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Surgery, Radiology, etc.) upon starting the fellowship.
Upon successful completion of the program, the Clinical Informatics Fellow can expect to:
- Master the Core Content set forth by the ACGME for the Subspecialty of Clinical Informatics
- Acquire a complete understanding of the different domains of informatics and how they apply to the practice of Clinical Informatics
- Be prepared to successfully pass the board certification examination for the Subspecialty in Clinical Informatics
Didactics for the Clinical Informatics program will be managed and provided by the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) under the leadership of the Chair, Dr. Peter Embí, the Vice chair for Educational Affairs, Dr. Jessica Ancker; the Fellowship Program Director, Dr. Dara Mize; Associate Fellowship Director, Dr. Jonathan Wanderer; and the MS in Applied Clinical Informatics Director, Dr. Scott Nelson. Additionally, CI fellows will engage with the HealthIT clinical directors throughout their fellowship training as well as other members of clinical informatics faculty within the Vanderbilt Clinical Informatics Center (VCLIC).
Most of the course work will occur in the context of the classes for the Master’s Program in Applied Clinical Informatics (MSACI), where fellows will have the opportunity to work alongside physician leaders from other hospitals and medical institutions enrolled in the program. CI fellows will also gain practical clinical informatics experience through dedicated immersion experiences within different informatics areas throughout DBMI and HealthIT@VUMC.
