Dr. Mize is the Chief Medical Information Officer at VUMC (appointed February 2023). She serves on the HealthIT executive team as the primary liaison to clinical leadership across VUMC. She also leads a team of clinical directors who have extensive expertise in clinical informatics. These clinical directors work with HealthIT experts to analyze, develop and implement solutions that optimize the use of technology and its impact on caring for VUMC’s patients and families.
Dr. Mize is also Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Medicine, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism. She is a practicing Endocrinologist and Clinical Informaticist. In addition to her clinical practice, where she focuses on diabetes and thyroid disease, she is a Clinical Director in the Office of the Chief Health Information Officer and the Program Director for the Clinical Informatics fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). She is board certified in internal medicine, diabetes endocrinology & metabolism and clinical informatics and completed a Masters of Science in Biomedical Informatics at VUMC.
Within endocrinology, Dr. Mize has had clinical interests in the management of diabetes in hospitalized patients. Her work has included evaluation of novel therapies in hospitalized patients with diabetes and in the management of patients with diabetes across transitions of care. Additionally, Dr. Mize serves on the Epic Endocrinology Steering Board to influence national EHR standards related to the care of patients with endocrine disorders.
In her role as a Clinical Director in the Office of the Chief Health Information Officer, she participated in the day-to-day operations, design and implementation of information technology systems. While her operations work has spanned a wide variety of informatics domains she has interests in EHR safety, clinician efficiency and managing change.
