Technology Requirements

Technology Overview 

Managing information is a central role for dietetics practitioners. Interns will need the computer skills to negotiate the Internet, download, move and copy files, and utilize word-processing and spreadsheet software. It is important for interns to be able to perform these skills before they begin the program.  

Computer Requirements and Recommendations 

Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s computing environment is Microsoft Windows based. Wireless networking capabilities are available throughout the medical center campus.  

 

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center Dietetic Internship Program requires each student to have a computer that meets the program requirements outlined in the handbook. Using an Android tablet, iPad, Linux, Distros, or Chromebook as a primary computer is not supported.  

 

Operating systems Windows 10 or MAC OS 10.14 or better is required; anything less is not supported. Video conferencing requires a high-speed internet connection and a webcam (either built-in on a laptop or a USB webcam). Please note: Windows 10S is not supported.  

 

Interns will need at a minimum the following software: 

  • Browsers: Chrome and Firefox

  • Microsoft 365. Students do not need to purchase Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Windows as they will receive access for free 

Minimum Technical Skills 

  • Using the learning management system 

  • Using email with attachments 
  • Creating and submitting files in commonly used word processing program formats 
  • Copying and pasting 
  • Downloading and installing software 
  • Using presentation and graphics programs  

Program & Specialty Technology Requirements

  • 2024-2025: VUnetID, VUMC VUnetID, and Vmail accounts
  • 2025-2026: VUMC ID and VUMC email account
