The Vanderbilt-Vietnam Genetic Epidemiology Training Program (V2-GENE) is a collaboration of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), Hanoi Medical University (HMU), and the Vietnam National Cancer Institute (VNCI) which seeks to develop a cohort of researchers and educators prepared with the necessary training and expertise to lead genetic epidemiology research of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the life course in Vietnam.
To this aim, the V2GENE program hosted its inaugural annual workshop on genetic epidemiology at Hanoi Medical University in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 3-5, 2024. During the workshop, participants learned fundamental concepts underlying genetic epidemiology studies, population-based case-control association studies, genome-wide association studies, sequencing data analysis, and the use of bioinformatics and population genetics tools. Fifty-eight researchers from various institutions across Vietnam completed the workshop. Opening remarks were given by Dr. Le Minh Giang (HMU) and Dr. Tran Thanh Huong (HMU/VNCI). The workshop was primarily facilitated by Dr. Digna Velez Edwards (VUMC), Dr. Xiao-Ou Shu (VUMC), Dr. Todd Edwards (VUMC), Dr. Xingyi Guo (VUMC), and Dr. Jirong Long (VUMC).
The V2-GENE program is supported by the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health under award number D43TW012727.
