Welcome!
We are glad you are joining the Vanderbilt University Medical Center community. You will receive a Welcome Email with instructions to access a task list which provides detailed instructions on what to do to begin employment at VUMC. A follow up email, which includes your contract, will be emailed out mid to late April to the email address listed on each new resident/fellow's application.
New House Staff Orientation for incoming Residents (PGY-1) will be June 24th, 25th, and 26th, 2024. (With Program Orientation to follow on June 27th and 28th, 2024)
- June 24th, 25th and 26th, 2024 will be in-person
New House Staff Orientation for July-starting incoming Residents, Fellows, and Clinical Fellow/Instructors (PGY -2 and higher) will be July 1st, 2024.
- July 1st, 2024 will be in-person
Late House Staff Orientation for August-starting incoming Residents, Fellows, and Clinical Fellow/Instructors (PGY -2 and higher) will be July 31st, 2024.
- July 31st, 2024 will be in-person
Incoming Clinical Fellow/Instructors will need to also attend New Clinician Orientation (NCO) that will be separate from GME Orientation for their appointment as an instructor.
- July – starting Clinical Fellow/Instructors will attend NCO on July 10th, 2024 virtually via Teams
- August – Starting Clinical Fellow/Instructors will attend NCO on August 14th, 2024 virtually via Teams

Medical License in TN and DEA Number
- GME handles paperwork for your license exemption.
- You do not need to apply for a TN Medical License unless you are planning on moonlighting.
- The Vanderbilt institutional DEA and your identifying suffix will auto-populate in RxStar (electronic prescribing system) and can be viewed in the House Staff Portal after your start date.
