The Health Policy Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group, a recently established committee in the VUMC, works together to strengthen responsiveness and resource report, form cultural humility, and promote shared responsibility within the department.
Responsiveness & Resource Support: Serve as a resource for faculty and staff by connecting department members to the appropriate information and supportive structures.
- Establish a reporting mechanism that allows general departmental issues or concerns to be submitted
- Make the VUMC reporting structure visible so individuals understand the steps that should be taken to report an issue or concern
Cultural Humility: Building cultural humility through enhanced awareness, increased knowledge, new exposures and experiences, and celebrating differences. Plan events & activities aimed to:
- Enhance awareness, knowledge, skills
- Provide exposure & experiences
- Celebrate differences
Shared Responsibility: Supporting the goal of establishing an inclusive, supportive and welcoming department
- Facilitate dialogue and shared learning about issues of equity, inclusion, and social justice to help achieve and sustain progress toward a more equitable and inclusive workplace
