The 2025 Medical Speech Pathology: Best Practices will be held Friday and Saturday, February 21-22, 2025.

Course Overview
Presenters will discuss best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders for adults with a variety of medical diagnoses. This conference will focus on practical approaches to managing these patients and will emphasize evidence-based techniques that can be implemented in daily evaluation and treatment.  One hour of the conference will be dedicated to ethical decision making, meeting the ethics CEU requirement by ASHA for a three-year period. Nicole Rogus-Pulia, Ph.D, CCC-SLP, will teach on the topics of the swallowing with aging populations.  

NEW IN 2025

Dr. Memorie Gosa will provide a lecture on pediatric dysphagia. This optional 3-hour course will be held Saturday afternoon, February 22. Attendees of the main conference may attend the pediatric course for only $45.

Management of acute and chronic dysphagia from radiation therapy for head & neck cancer Utilization of the Rancho Los Amigos Scale in assessment of acute traumatic brain injury
The SLP’s role in post-extubation care
Update on medical & surgical interventions for ischemic stroke
Key note lecture on the geriatric swallow, aging, and frailty
 

Learning Objectives:
Participants will list 2 acute and 2 chronic toxicities from radiation therapy.

Participants will identify 2 skills consistent with at least 3 of the Rancho levels. 

Participants will describe 3 characteristics neurologists identify when assessing severity of stroke presentation. 

Participants will list 3 proactive management tools to assist with minimizing dysphagia in older adults.
