Mission Statement:
The Hearing and Communication Research Laboratory seeks to improve our understanding of the communication difficulties faced by adults and children with hearing loss and how this impacts their everyday lives.
We are specifically interested in: (1) the underlying factors responsible for speech understanding difficulties in individuals with hearing loss and (2) the consequences of these communication problems (e.g., academic or behavioral consequences for children and social or occupational consequences for adults). In addition, our research focuses on developing, and assessing, measurement tools to identify those at risk for hearing loss-related problems, and designing interventions to improve communication and reduce the burden of hearing loss in adults and children.
We use a variety of techniques to explore our research questions including psychophysical, qualitative and physiologic approaches. Our research team includes practicing audiologists, graduate students and PhD students. You can get an idea of the kind of work we do by reviewing our current and past projects here. If you have any questions or want to participate in any of our studies you can contact us here.
