The Program for Injury Prevention in Youth Sports (PIPYS) is a partnership between Vanderbilt Sports Medicine and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. It is a multidisciplinary team of dedicated medical center, university and community partners whose mission is to develop, evaluate and promote strategies to prevent youth sports-related injuries and to protect the health of the pediatric athlete.
While sports activity can lead to injury, we encourage every child to exercise, build strength and use the right equipment when participating in sports. Preventing young athletes' sports injuries enables them to reach their fullest potential and remain on a lifetime path to good health.
Overuse injuries, heat-related injury, concussion, hazing, and violence against women and children are just a few of the topics we address through the five purposes of the center:
- Research
- Education
- Advocacy
- Social and legislative action
- Patient care
Vanderbilt is the official sports medicine provider for Vanderbilt Athletics, the Nashville Predators, the Nashville Sounds, the Nashville Soccer Club, Metro Nashville Public Schools and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.
