The Vanderbilt Military Affairs Committee (VMAC) represents all the military-civilian collaborative programs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). The committee limits its field of interest to topics that primarily or solely affect the military-civilian collaborative programs. For projects, queries, or policies that cover other areas, the committee identifies and reviews issues relevant to the military-civilian collaborative programs.
The committee has the following major goals:
- Provide oversight of the integration of the military-civilian collaborative programs at VUMC to optimize clinical experience, education, and patient care.
- Review and approve institutional changes and practices affecting the military-civilian collaborative programs
- Advise leadership and staff regarding administrative and clinical processes affecting military-civilian collaborative programs.
- Plan, operationalize, and evaluate initiatives related to the military-civilian collaborative programs.
- Evaluate and plan for current programs, growth of existing programs, and new programs.
- Serve as a forum for the transmission of information related to the military-civilian collaborative programs.
The VMAC meets quarterly and is comprised of representatives from various backgrounds and specialties including Emergency Medicine, Nursing, Anesthesia, Acute Care Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery.
