The neuromuscular fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is an ACGME approved fellowship designed to fill requirements for certification in the neuromuscular medicine. It also fulfills requirements for certification by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Added Qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. 

Training is based at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital adjacent to VUMC. Six faculty members comprise the Neuromuscular Division [link to Neuromuscular Division landing page]. The fellows will receive training in the EMG laboratory at both institutions and the neuromuscular clinic, Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinic and the ALS Clinic of Vanderbilt University. Training will focus on patients with muscular dystrophies, both adult and pediatric, inherited neuropathies, acquired neuropathies, neuromuscular junction disorders, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other motor neuron diseases. 

By the end of their training, fellows will be proficient and independent in the practice of nerve conduction studies, EMG, repetitive nerve stimulation and, if interested, single fiber EMG. Additional education is available in autonomic testing. Fellows will have exposure to pediatric electromyography and pediatric neuromuscular patients, the latter primarily in the MDA Clinic. Fellows will be responsible for providing inpatient neuromuscular consultations. Fellows will be expected to attend weekly conferences in muscle pathology and frequent neurophysiology and neuromuscular lectures.
