One of the benefits of training at an academic institution like Vanderbilt is the abundance of research opportunities available to residents and fellows. Faculty physicians and researchers are committed to continually discovering better treatment options that improve quality of life and reverse the course of neurological disease, and we value the input of trainees in these endeavors. The Department of Neurology is home to many mentors eager to work with residents and fellows in basic, clinical, and translational research. Residents and fellows regularly graduate with publications to add to their CVs. Residents often choose to use their electives in years PGY-3/4 to pursue research. Tools available to trainees to pursue research include a clinical research lecture series, on-site MPH, MCSI, and MHPE programs, vast online journal access, and access to the Redcap database and BioVU (a database of de-identified actual EMR with isolated DNA samples).
