Welcome to Medical Center East, commonly known as MCE. We are located on the 3rd floor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Our unit is fast-paced, flexible, and team-oriented with the focus on providing excellent surgical care for our patient population.
MCE provides surgical care for a wide variety of patients, as we are a location, not a service line. Types of surgeries performed in MCE are reconstructive and cosmetic plastics, gender affirming, sinus, otology, oncology, bariatric, colorectal, ophthalmology, airway/voice, oral/maxillofacial, sleep apnea, robotics, and podiatry.
MCE consists of 11 operating rooms, including a dedicated robotic room and dedicated eye room. We are open Monday-Friday and closed on weekends. MCE staff provide call coverage for ophthalmology and holidays.
Our team consists of RN’s, Surgical Techs, First Assists (RN’s and Surgical Techs), Clinical Staff Leaders (CSL’s), a Surgical Tech Lead, and a Charge Board Nurse. The team reports to a nurse manager and clinical nursing director.
Professional Growth
If your career goal is to expand your nursing career outside of the traditional bedside care model, the MCE team can help with this by providing you with numerous ways to expand your skillset whether it be leadership, scrubbing, or first assisting in cases.
