Periodically, you will receive a Question of the Week in which a topic (such as overdose management, environmental exposure, snake or spider bites, drug interactions, etc.) has been addressed by members of the Tennessee Poison Center Staff or Fellows rotating on the Toxicology Service. Sometimes a subspecialty expert contributes. Most of the time these Questions are two to three paragraphs.
Please visit our website www.tnpoisoncenter.org. All of the Questions of the Week are housed under the health care professional tab. We have been writing them since 2004, so take a look and see if there are topics that you would like to browse.
At any time, you can propose a question that you would like to have addressed. Some of our best questions have been proposed by readers (of which there are more than 3,000!).
You will be receiving a “Question” shortly, so be on the lookout. It will contain the new guidelines for systemic loxoscelism. We now know that extravascular hemolysis as well as intravascular hemolysis can occur. The previous guideline was based on the assumption that hemolysis was only intravascular. Lots more to come.
