Craig R. Sussman, MD
Dr. Sussman has been on the Vanderbilt faculty for 45 years, practicing and teaching endocrinology, hypertension and general internal medicine. He received his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine, and went on to complete his internship, residency, and chief residency at Temple University Hospital. His curiosity and interest in endocrinology brought him to Vanderbilt University to study under several of the leaders of twentieth century endocrinology, including Grant Liddle, David Rabin, John Oates and David Orth. The key emphasis of his training and career has been to look for identifiable causes for disease. Whether it is hypertension, diabetes, cancer, or rare, puzzling syndromes, his curiosity led him to search for the cause. Being born into a family with a genetic cancer syndrome, the genetic link to disease is something Dr. Sussman has a personal connection to.
His special interest in the Potocsnak Center for Undiagnosed and Rare Disorders started several years ago when he met Rizwan Hamid, the director. He has chosen to participate in the center as the next challenge of his career. He feels that he has been fortunate in his career to have been taught by outstanding diagnosticians and looks forward to utilizing his lifelong skills to help patients and young physicians find undiagnosed and rare medical disorders
