About the Study

The PREFACE Study is a research study at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center that helps us learn more about ways to improve health, especially reproductive health, for individuals along their colorectal cancer journey.

What Should You Expect?

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to:

  • Answer questionnaires about your health history and provide updates about your medical history one to two times per year.

  • Give the PREFACE Study team permission to access medical records about your cancer diagnosis/treatment.

  • Provide small blood samples: before cancer therapy, after your treatments, as well as 9, 18 and 36 months after the end of your cancer treatment.

  • If you have surgery to treat your cancer, allow us to study some of the cancer tissue that the surgeon removed.

How Does This Affect You?

  • PREFACE Study volunteers are vital to advancing our knowledge about the unique challenges that young patients and survivors face, including fertility and sexual health, and specific needs after a colorectal cancer diagnosis.

  • Participating in the PREFACE Study will not change your medical care.

  • Your participation is voluntary, and you can stop participating at any time.

  • We make every reasonable effort to keep your personal information private, but total confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

We very much appreciate your consideration of this important research study so that, together, we can discover new ways to improve reproductive health for colorectal cancer patients and survivors.
