The Department of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University considers international medical graduates for both residency and fellowship positions based on their individual accomplishments and credentials.Additionally, all international medical graduates must be ECFMG certified prior to entering the residency or any of our ACGME-approved fellowship programs.
Although it is not required, we strongly prefer that residency applicants have US clinical experience. Fellowship applicants must complete an ACGME approved residency in general psychiatry to be considered for the program in Psychosomatic Medicine. A minimum of three years in an ACGME approved general residency is required for application to the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship.
At this time, we do not offer any observership/externship opportunities or pre-match contracts for residency applicants. Additionally, the Vanderbilt Graduate Medical Education office is able to sponsor J-1 Visas only through the ECFMG.
