The Vanderbilt Adult Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic (VAPOC) is part of the full service Community Mental Health Center, serving both adult and child and adolescent patients. VAPOC is located in the Village at Vanderbilt. The Clinic is staffed by psychiatrists, psychiatric residents (PGY 3), psychologists, psychiatric social workers, psychiatric nurses and professional trainees. The patient population is typical of community mental health centers nationwide, and includes the chronically mentally ill, as well as the working poor with mental health needs who cannot afford private sector care. Patients present with a spectrum of psychiatric conditions, from acute emergencies to long-standing personality disorders.
The educational emphasis in VAPOC is on outpatient psychiatric and community mental health practice in a contemporary, managed care environment, including individual and group psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and crisis intervention, community support programs and rehabilitation.
