Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery
The Vanderbilt surgeons and surgical teams involved in this center have extensive experience with thyroid and parathyroid surgery, including all forms of thyroid cancer. Our surgeons also have expertise in Minimally Invasive Parathyroid Surgery guided by intra-operative parathyroid hormone monitoring, which is offered to appropriate patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. The procedure allows patients to leave the hospital on the same day as their surgery. The Center performs about 500 neck operations a year.
Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN) and Other Inherited Syndromes
The Vanderbilt surgeons involved have extensive experience in the surgical management of patients with MEN, VHL, NF1 and other hereditary conditions that are associated with endocrine/neuroendocrine tumors.
Adrenal and Pancreatic Surgery
The Vanderbilt surgeons and surgical teams involved in this center have extensive experience in adrenal and endocrine pancreatic surgery. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is available and is the generally preferred operative approach for adrenal tumors. Our surgeons have also introduced to the Southeast a new operating technique for adrenal tumors: retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy, allowing the surgeon to avoid abdominal incisions altogether. Our surgeons also perform Robotic minimally invasive adrenal procedures.
Neuroendocrine Tumor Surgery
The Vanderbilt surgeons involved have extensive experience in the surgical management of neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas, small bowel, adrenal, parathyroid, thyroid, and other locations (not in lung or pituitary).
