Research Information

Interests:

  • Physical and psychological effects of reduced mobility and pain
  • Short-term and long-term postoperative outcomes following limb salvage and spinal procedures
  • Surgical and rehabilitation management of fractures
  • Exercise and bone health

My research focuses on the modifiable risk factors of poor long-term outcomes in medical and surgical patient populations in order to inform rehabilitation strategies. Ongoing projects are prospective cohort studies to quantify the contribution of psychosocial risk factors on postoperative outcomes following limb salvage and spinal procedures and a randomized trial to test the efficacy of a cognitive-behavioral based physical therapy program in patients with degenerative spinal conditions. Additional research interests include the assessment of pain and psychological distress in patients during hospitalization and the early recovery period.
