Mauricio is a Ph.D. student in the Hearing and Speech Sciences department at Vanderbilt University, through a BIO Fulbright-ANID scholarship. He has a Masters in Speech Therapy, with a specialization in voice and is also currently an assistant professor at Universidad del Bio-Bio with a focus in academia and research. His current research is in the localization of structural proteins of the vocal fold, particularly those with a homeostatic role and participation in programmed cell death in the epithelium of the vocal folds. He is in search of determining the mechanisms of damage and cellular recovery in pathologies due to mechanical damage.
