NEW Product ENFit® Connection System

Coming this fall, VUMC will be converting to ENFit® enteral systems. This system safeguards connections between tube feeding sets, feeding tubes and medication syringes

The ENFit® contains a syringe adapter on Small bore feeding tubes or peg tubes. The connection prevents any inadvertent connection to a non-enteral system such as a vascular catheter or peritoneal dialysis catheter. Essentially it create a leur lock connection as opposed to slip tip.

If this is coming in the fall, why am I telling you now??

Until the product rolls out, we may be seeing patients transfer from regional facilities, using ENFit® compatable tubes. Until VUMC Completely transfers to this system, we will use Transition kits, process for ordering below.

Ordering Transition Kits:
ENFit® Transition Kits were created until full conversion to ENFit® products at VUMC.
ENFit® Transition Kits are stored centrally and available to inpatient areas by calling your local service center technicians.

Process Update: Drains placed by CT/Ultrasound
There has been an increase in premature removal of drains placed by CT/US. To help prevent this occurrence, all drains placed in IR will be labeled before leaving the procedure room. Labels will provide
1. Contact for Radiology
2. Drain type/location
3. Date the drain was placed

If the label comes off, call radiology for a replacement label.

The Vanderbilt Spine Center is applying for a Joint Commission Certification in Spine Surgery. This certification enhances quality of care provided in the spine center and improves standardized patient care.
Anyone who may care for elective spine surgery patients needs to complete this short module educating on spine surgery.
This Module is Mandatory and Due August 31st.

At the front of the unit, outside of my office is a new resource in the form of a QR Bar.

Listed on this board are quick links to frequent resources, and some of my favorite educational sites.

Looking for another Link? Let me know and I'll put it on the bar!

Important Update: CVICU Procedure & Emergency Management Course!

Previously, the CVICU Procedure course has been seen as a course only utilized for training Help All's

I want to DEBUNK the myth, and share an important update with the entire team.

The procedure/emergency course provides you with training on low-frequency, high-risk skills that you may only see once or twice a year on the unit. We LOVE our help all and resource nurses but with the acuity of our patients they cant be everywhere all at once! By attending this course, you have the opportunity to increase your competency with devices and therapies including

- Peritoneal Dialysis - EKOS Catheters - Lumbar Drains - Calcium/Citrate - Codes and Rapid Sequence Intubation- Mechanical Circulatory Support (ECMO/Impella/IABP/VAD) - MTP through Belmont - Temporary Pacing - Bronch - Latex Free Swan -

With this change, I am also bringing an announcement that from today on, any nurse onboarded into CV will be automatically enrolled in this course  6-9 months after you get off of orientation. For those of you that are at that point and NOT yet enrolled or taken this course, here are three dates below to get signed up.
