Kim Unertl, PhD, MS, FACMI, Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at VUMC, says that informatics programs can improve by actively recruiting more first-generation college graduates, especially those from communities that are underrepresented in STEM.

She discusses the topic, as well as her own experience as a first-generation college graduate, in the NLM Musings from the Mezzanine blog (led by NLM Director Patti Brennan). Read the full blog here.
