Protiva Rahman, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics Department at the University of Florida, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at VUMC. Previously Dr. Rahman completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Biomedical Informatics at VUMC and received her PhD in Computer Science from the Ohio State University in 2020. 

Dr. Rahman is interested in building tools to democratize data science, with a focus on empowering domain experts in healthcare. Her research spans the disciplines of data science, natural language processing, and human-computer interaction in domains of infectious diseases and cancer. Her overarching goal is to bridge the gap between data and domain experts. To this end, her PhD thesis presented a framework to amplify expertise in clinical data pipelines while her postdoctoral work aimed to automate data extraction from unstructured texts such as EHR notes and biomedical literature using NLP.

Bhavnisha Patel, who has an MSPS Healthcare Informatics and BS Biochemistry, possesses a good knowledge of data capture, validation, and maintenance. She currently work as Application Developer for the CIPHI department, supporting research initiatives. She previously worked as technical consultant, specializing in building, designing, and implementing CMS forms using software development lifecycle and agile methodology for nearly eight years.

Benjamin Collins to give talk on “Navigating the AI Future of Health Care” in the TEDxVanderbiltUniversity on April 18

Vanderbilt University’s Employee Learning and Engagement Team will host the the seventh annual TEDxVanderbiltUniversity on April 18 and feature a talk on how artificial intelligence could reshape the future of healthcare. Dr. Benjamin Collins, a physician researcher, bioethicist and informatician at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will discuss “Navigating the AI Future of Health Care” at the event.

Lisa Roddy, RN, joined DBMI in March 2023 as a Nurse Informatics Data Analyst. Following graduation from nursing school in 1994, she began a career as a nurse in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She has been employed at Monroe Carell Children's Hospital since 2002. At the bedside, she worked in the Pediatric Medicine unit for infants and toddlers. She transferred to the Float Pool at the children’s hospital. During her years at Monroe Carell, she also served as a Case Manager for Pediatric Nephrology and, finally, as a Transfer Nurse for Monroe Carell Throughput Center before joining DBMI. She will graduate with a Master's in Nursing Informatics (MSN) from Vanderbilt University in August 2023.
