Overview
The VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services team administers all Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Server software, including:
- Acquisition of New Servers
- Configuration of Existing Servers
- Maintenance of Existing Servers
- Decommissioning of Servers
Acquisition of New Servers
The acquisition of one or more servers can vary depending on which department you are in. VUMC IT Hosting Services departments can request a server directly from the VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services team by submitting a General Request.
All other departments outside of VUMC IT Hosting Services will need to submit an ITR through a Customer Relationship Manager.
Configuration of Existing Servers
The VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services team manages OS-level / root-level configuration of servers.
The group that requested the server manages any application-level configuration on the server. The configuration of these applications is the responsibility of the customer.
Submit a Pegasus Ticket for IT INFRASTRUCTURE PLATFORM SERVICES - GENERAL REQUEST if you have additional needs related to already provisioned server(s).
Maintenance of Existing Servers
The VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services team manages any maintenance and Operating System patching to keep servers in compliance with VEC and VUMC IT policies.
VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services adheres to the published monthly maintenance schedule. All servers will be updated with monthly Operating System patches during their respective dates on the schedule, including definition updates to antivirus/anti malware.
VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services manages installation and maintenance of Enterprise software needed for monitoring and compliance.

- VMware
Servers VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services manages are backed up using the VUMC IT Storage Backup Service offering.
The application group, typically the group that requested the server, is responsible for the maintenance of any applications they require to run on the server.
Submit a Pegasus Ticket for IT INFRASTRUCTURE PLATFORM SERVICES - GENERAL REQUEST if you have additional needs related to already provisioned server(s).
Decommissioning of Servers
Submit a Pegasus Ticket for IT INFRASTRUCTURE PLATFORM SERVICES - GENERAL REQUEST to officially request a server be powered off and decommissioned.
- Servers must be ready for decommission at the time this is submitted. The process happens in two stages. After the first stage, the server will be turned off. After the final stage, the server and its data will be gone forever.
- Prod server - Can take one to two months for full approval and decommission process.
- Non-Prod server - Can take two to four weeks for full approval and decommission process.
- NOTE: VUMC IT Infrastructure Platform Services or IT Linux must be listed as the Admin Group on the CI.
- NOTE: Requestor must be a member of one of the server's Pegasus CI Workgroups and or a member of one of the server local admin groups.
