Windows 8.1 Update

Microsoft released Windows 8.1 Update on April 8.  The Update is free through Windows Update. Software Store Maintenance Scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, from 6-8 a.m.

Kivuto, the company that hosts the Vanderbilt Software Store, is upgrading ELMS (the storefront platform) on March 26, 2014 beginning at 6:00 AM.  Kivuto expects to complete the maintenance within 2 hours.  During this time, Kivuto will place the store in “maintenance mode” and will display a message indicating the store is temporarily unavailable to customers. During the maintenance period, Vanderbilt departments, faculty, staff and students cannot log into the Software Store.

New Microsoft Remote Desktop app for iOS, Mac OS X, Android

During fall 2013, Microsoft introduced Remote Desktop clients for iOS and Android, and updated Remote Desktop for Mac OS X.  Microsoft is expected to eventually offer Remote Desktop for Windows Phone.  Remote Desktop lets users connect to remote Windows PCs. Microsoft Ends Windows XP Support on April 8, 2014

Microsoft will end all support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. Office 365 will not block connections from fully patched Windows XP computers after April 8, 2014, but connectivity to the service will be at risk. Windows XP workstations that have not deployed all service packs and automatic updates run an even higher risk of Office 365 connectivity issues after support for Windows XP ends. Microsoft strongly recommends that you upgrade your Windows XP workstations to Windows 8 or Windows 7 prior to April 8, 2014.
