Vanderbilt adopted a new policy for registering, renewing and transferring university and medical center domain names on February 1, 2012. The goal of the policy is to:
•Provide the university and medical center with an efficient domain registration, renewal and transfer process
•Centrally track all domains used by the university and medical center
•Ensure a domain is not tied to an individual person’s credit card or login and the domain will be accessible by Vanderbilt should that person leave or be unavailable
•Ensure Vanderbilt’s trademarks are used properly
•Minimize domain name registration, renewal and transfer costs for the enterprise
Since adopting the new policy, Vanderbilt increased its portfolio of centrally managed domains from 80 to 338 – a 323% increase over the past 9 months.
ITS offers the domain service to the enterprise. The service includes:
•Discounted pricing for domain registrations, renewals and transfers
•No charge web forwarding
•No charge web hosting
•No charge email
•Discounted pricing for Enterprise SSL certificates
In addition, university departments may contact University Web Communications for help creating and designing web sites. Medical Center departments may contact Web and Creative Services.
