Over 100 attendees, representing twenty departments and technical areas across the Medical Center, gathered over a period of four days in July and began defining goals, establishing key requirements and developing timelines for the massive endeavor of developing a new Active Directory (AD) for VUMC. World Wide Technology (WWT) was on-site to assist with the planning and facilitated the first of what will be several sessions as the project continues to make progress.
Teams came together to outline an overall strategy for the project and realized there will be many challenges to make this project a success. In-depth reviews of hosting, data and voice networks, ITSM, monitoring, collaboration, communication, desktop management, cloud services, Health IT and Independent Service Providers were discussed at length to gain a better understanding of where VUMC directory services is and where they need to be for a new AD to be put into place.
All teams were clearly committed to providing their time and knowledge to the project. WWT was particularly complimentary of VUMC’s knowledgeable and talented workforce and their understanding of the intricate environment and consultation needs, including IT infrastructure, VUMC culture, departmental needs, and technical dependencies.
WWT engineers are completing the initial documentation for review by VUMC leaders and project teams.
