The Program Advisory Committee will offer appointments to the program in February of each year. All participants are evaluated on an individual basis with selection based on the following criteria:
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Science Grade Point Average
- Letters of Recommendation or Pre-professional Evaluation
- Interview Evaluation
The Interview Evaluation includes a review of each applicant on the basis of academic achievement, work experience, interest and knowledge of the Medical Laboratory Science profession, career goals, and personal attributes which would contribute to the success of the applicant in the program and as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. These attributes include an ability to make decisions based on sound knowledge, strong ethical and moral attitudes, and a commitment to quality patient care. All applicants who meet the minimum requirements of coursework and GPA will be granted an interview.
Interviews will be conducted once all application materials have been received and reviewed and will take place until the end of January. Applicants will select an in-person or online Teams interview. Interviews are conducted by the program director, educational coordinator, and clinical coordinator. Applicants who select an in-person interview will receive a tour of the Vanderbilt Medical Laboratories after the interview. Online interviews take approximately 1 hour, and in person interviews take up to 2 hours.
