Emily Thompson
Dr. Emily Thompson is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Music Cognition Laboratory, jointly mentored by Drs. Miriam Lense and Reyna Gordon. Dr. Thompson also maintains TN state licensure as an ASHA-certified pediatric audiologist (CCC-A). Dr. Thompson holds a B.A. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences and Psychology (University of Connecticut; 2015), an Au.D. specializing in management of childhood hearing loss (Vanderbilt School of Medicine; 2019), and a Ph.D. in hearing science (Vanderbilt Graduate School; 2024).
As a translational clinician-researcher, Dr. Thompson's primary interests include early child development, newborn hearing screenings, aural rehabilitation, assistive technology, auditory neuroscience, and effective intervention approaches for autistic preschoolers. Dr. Thompson's future work aims to explore holistic initiatives to support psychosocial skills and language growth for youth with hearing loss, promote advocacy for families with multiple disabilities, and enhance healthcare access to underserved communities.
