Dr. Kaung San is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology’s Sleep Division at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (Sleep Medicine).

Dr. San’s first-author peer-reviewed articles have been published in Current Pulmonology Reports, Annals of the American Thoracic Society, and Thyroid.

Prior to his appointment at VUMC, Dr. San was a full-time staff physician in sleep medicine at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH, where he served veterans with various sleep needs. He completed a fellowship in Sleep Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University (Summa Health) in Akron, OH. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV, and his B.S. in mathematics from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. In his free time, Dr. San enjoys traveling and visiting the national parks domestically and around the world.

Dr. Meryim Poursheykhi is an inpatient neurologist with licensure in Tennessee and Kentucky. She works closely with residents as a neurohospitalist, and was awarded the resident teaching award in 2023.

Dr. Poursheykhi completed neurology residency at Houston Methodist Hospital, serving as chief resident her senior year. During residency she served on the Wellness Committee and Graduate Medical Education Committee, and she received the Outstanding Stroke Investigator Award. She earned her doctor of medicine degree from the University of RWTH Aachen School of Medicine in Aachen, Germany.

Dr. Adam Hartman is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Stroke Division at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, as well as the Program Director for the department’s growing Teleneurology program. He is highly involved in the education of the department’s trainees. Dr. Hartman has been certified in Neurology from the American Board of Psychology and Neurology since 2020. Dr. Hartman is a member of the Tennessee Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association.

Prior to his position at VUMC, Dr. Hartman served as a neuro-hospitalist and Assistant Professor with the Duke University Hospital System. He completed his fellowship in vascular neurology in 2021 at the University of Colorado Anschutz. He received his neurology residency training at VUMC, serving as chief resident his senior year. Dr. Hartman earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston, and his B.A. in Political Science from Rice University. 

As a native of Austin, Texas, Dr. Hartman likes to spend his free time hiking and exploring the outdoors with his husband and their dog.

Chloe Wilson is a Physician Assistant in the Department of Neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, specializing in Epilepsy in the outpatient setting. She is an active member of the American Association of Physician Assistants and the Tennessee Association of Physician Assistants.
 
Prior to her current position, Chloe worked for four years in interventional pain management. She earned her Master of Science Medicine (M.S.M.) degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. Prior to this she earned her undergraduate and M.S. degrees in Molecular Biology from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.

Susanta Bandyopadhyay, MD, PhD

Dr. Susanta Bandyopadhyay is an Associate Professor of Neurology in the department’s Epilepsy division at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He is certified in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Bandyopadhyay is currently a member of the American Epilepsy Society, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (in which he also served on the Continuing Medical Education Committee), the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Medical Association. He has received recognition for his work in clinical neurophysiology, including the Clinical Neurophysiology Award of Excellence from the VUMC Neurology Department. He is also a Fellow of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and the American Epilepsy Society, and has been named on the Best Doctors in America list for several years.

His research has been published in such journals as the Journal of the American Geriatric Society, Epilepsy and Behavior Case Report, and Journal of Neurophysiology.

Prior to his position at VUMC, Dr. Bandyopadhyay worked as an academic clinician in the epilepsy center at the University of Missouri in Columbia. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he engaged in a number of teaching and mentorship activities. He completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy at VUMC, during which time he served as Chief Fellow. He completed residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. Prior to residency, he earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he studied the basic mechanisms underlying epilepsy. His Ph.D. research inspired a return to clinical work with a focus on epilepsy.

He earned his MD, MBBS, and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene all from the University of Calcutta, India. Dr. Bandyopadhyay worked as an academic physician in India for several years before moving to the United States to pursue his Ph.D.

Dr. Amalia Peterson is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and a board-certified neurologist specializing in neurodegenerative memory disorders.

She received her undergraduate degree from Pomona College. She earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan and completed residency training in neurology at the University of North Carolina. She subsequently completed a fellowship in behavioral neurology and a master's degree in epidemiology at Columbia University in New York.

Dr. Peterson’s research focuses on how women’s health factors relate to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. She serves as a co-investigator with the Vanderbilt Memory and Aging Project and the Vanderbilt Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center

Dr. Curfman is board certified in both general neurology and vascular neurology. He follows patients at the Vanderbilt Clinic at VUMC and via telemedicine. He manages and treats a variety of neurologic disorders with an emphasis on headache management and the care of stroke patients. He is licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee and Kentucky. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Curfman earned a BS in Neurobiology and Neurophysiology at Purdue University before receiving his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. He completed his neurology residency at Washington University in St. Louis, where he was also a Chief Resident. In 2016 he completed a Vascular Neurology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He practiced in the St. Louis community before joining the faculty at Vanderbilt in 2022.

In his spare time he enjoys biking, swimming, tennis, and art.

John Kramer works as a certified physician assistant at the Vanderbilt MS Center.  He has worked in the field of neuroimmunology for the past 22 years.  Caring for neurological patients is a true passion of his, and he has participated in dozens of clinical research trials, published in several neurology journals, and has presented at national conferences.  He is the co-director of the IV infusion clinic at the Vanderbilt MS Center.  In his free time, John likes to play golf, exercise, and spend time with his family.

Kara Gaw is a Certified Physician Assistant practicing in Sleep Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She assists in both the Neurology and Pulmonology Sleep Medicine Clinics. She has been practicing as a Certified Physician Assistant since 2014. Prior to her current role in sleep medicine, she gained experience working in the outpatient setting in General Neurology as well as Orthopedic Spine Surgery. Kara is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Kara received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as a National Merit Scholar at Harding University and her Masters of Science in Medicine/Physician Assistant Studies from Trevecca Nazarene University.

Lexi Rouse is a nurse practitioner in the outpatient general neurology and stroke clinics in the Department of Neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Prior to her current position, Lexi served in the Neuro ICU at VUMC. She earned both her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Nursing from Belmont University in Nashville.
