Experience:

9 years of clinical nursing experience in Hematology/Oncology

Started with Nursing Informatics Services in 2020

Why informatics:

I accidentally tripped into a contract nursing informatics job after undergrad and discovered that I loved it! But it wasn't until I switched to bedside nursing that I realized the impact that Nursing Informatics has on nurses, patients, and care. I love nursing informatics because it has the ability to change the way people work, think, learn, and live. There's nothing better than seeing someone light up over a problem fixed or having them tell you how much a project has improved the care they deliver. I also love educating and inspiring other nurses to tap into another part of thinking to find ways to leverage the EHR system of their benefit.

I believe with using information technology and evidence-based practices we can assist frontline nurses with their workflow, help improve patient care, safety, and have better patient outcomes.

Education:

Austin Peay State University and Hopkinsville Community College (other degrees)

Walden University, MSN

Experience:

13 years of clinical nursing experience in nursery, NICU and Pediatrics

Started with Nursing Informatics Services in 2021

Why informatics:

I first began to appreciate Informatics tools when floating between Post Partum and Newborn Nursery.  I discovered problems and found solutions through Informatics that were truly helpful to my nursing colleagues and enhanced patient safety.  I enjoyed reviewing documentation and ensuring that the EHR was accurate.  Not all of my nursing colleagues shared this enthusiasm for documenting, so I began to see this as a possible avenue to pursue.  I was able to shadow a colleague in her new role as an analyst and followed the path to a Nursing Informatics degree.  The field is always evolving and new ways to help nurses and clinicians to provide optimal patient care surface every day.

Nursing Informatics Specialist

Education:

Tennessee State University, ADN

Excelsior College, BSN

Experience:

24 years of clinical nursing experience in Periop

Started with Nursing Informatics Services in 2019

Why informatics:

I am a nurse, and I love what I do. Taking care of people on the best and worse days of their lives allows me to be my best self. I chose nursing informatics because, over my years of being a nurse and taking care of patients, I realized that I was spending more time double charting information about patient care which took nurses away from direct care of my patient. I want to help solve these challenges!
