Graduate and Undergraduate Student Learning Opportunities

The following learning opportunities are available for internal (VU/VUMC) and/or external graduate and  undergraduate students.

VU Undergraduates: Shadowing

Students must complete the requirements and deadlines managed by the VU Health Professions Advisory Office (HPAO) in order to be considered and approved for shadowing. If a student is approved, the HPAO emails the faculty listed on the student’s form.

Non-VU Undergraduates: Shadowing

Students are required to complete the application documents and steps managed by the Vanderbilt Observational Experience Program. Applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the anticipated observation experience date.

VU and Non-VU Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Opportunities for Research Interns (paid) and Observers (unpaid) are under the VUMC Medical Center Relations Office. The process is initiated by the PM&R Department who works with faculty, the student, and the VUMC Medical Center Relations Office to process the appointment.

Interested students should first review the criteria and process located at the VUMC Medical Center Relations Office. If a student identifies a PM&R faculty member who agrees to serve as the mentor for a research intern and/or observer position, contact Irene McKirgan, PM&R Department Sr. Program Manager, to initiate the process.
