1) Provide a background to allow a better understanding of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program.
2) Explain recent significant changes in the elements of MOC and their impact on individual Diplomates.
3) Introduce the developing Part 3 MOC On-line Assessment (OLA)

Lisa Kachnic, M.D., is the former Chairperson of the Department of Radiation Oncology and Associate Director of Multidisciplinary Cancer Research at Boston University. She also served on the Radiation Oncology faculty at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and her medical degree from Tufts University. Dr. Kachnic completed her residency in Radiation Oncology at Harvard University, her last year as chief resident.
Dr. Kachnic belongs to a number of professional organizations including ASTRO and ASCO. She serves on the editorial boards of the JNCI and Gastrointestinal Cancer Research. Her primary areas of interest include colo-rectal and anal malignancies, image-guided radiation delivery and outcomes/symptoms management research. She is actively involved in the NRG (NSABP RTOG GOG) Gastrointestinal (GI) strategic committee, and is their co-chair of their NCORP Cancer Control and Prevention Program. She also serves as GI Radiation Oncology chairperson and Anorectal co-chairperson for the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), where she is also the Multi-modality Executive Officer. As a tribute to these leadership efforts, Dr. Kachnic has been awarded NCI funding from the NRG and SWOG, and was the 2008 recipient of the first RTOG “Next Generation Investigator” award.
Dr. Kachnic has other national leadership positions that are worthy of mention. She recently became a fellow of ASTRO after many years of service, most recently as Scientific Committee vice-chair and editor of their newsletter. She is vice-chairperson of the NCI Intergroup Anorectal Cancer Task Force, and was the chairperson for the 2014 ASCO GI meeting. After several years as chairperson of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) radiation oncology exams in GI cancers, she became the radiation oncology GI trustee for the ABR in 2010, more recently being named as an ABR Executive Officer and President-Elect. Dr. Kachnic has also been the principle investigator on several Boston University Medical Center funded clinical research efforts including a prior NCI Minority-based CCOP Program Award. Dr. Kachnic’s research has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and reviews.
