This grand round is designed for faculty, residents, staff and medical students. 

Learning Objectives:

1) Describe the state-of-the-art of coronary CT angiography.

2) Select suitable indications for cardiac CT.

3) Discuss CT techniques for determining lesion specific ischemia.

Joe Schoepf is a Professor with appointments in Radiology, Cardiovascular Medicine, and Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC. At MUSC Dr. Schoepf serves as director of the Division of Cardiovascular Imaging, Director of Computed Tomography Research, and as the Director of the University Designated Center for Biomedical Imaging.

Dr. Schoepf, a native of Austria, graduated from the medical school of University of Munich, Germany. After his residency he assumed a position at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, which he held from 2001-2004. Dr. Schoef is certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American and Austrian Specialty Boards as well as in Cardiovascular CT by the American College of Radiology and the Certification Board for Cardiovascular CT. His main clinical and scientific interest is the use of advanced CT and MRI techniques for diagnosing disorders of the heart and lung.

Dr. Schoepf has been serving on the editorial boards of several scientific journals including Radiology, the Journal of the American Heart Association, the American Journal of Roentgenology, and Academic Radiology. He is Deputy Editor of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging and Head of the Cardiac Section of the Editorial Board of European Radiology. He has given >300 invited lectures internationally, has authored >400 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, >20 book chapters, and five books.

Dr. Schoepf has been serving as chairman of several committees of the ACR, American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, American Heart Association, North American Society of Cardiovascular Imaging, Society of Computed Body Tomography and MR, and the Society of Thoracic Radiology. He is an honorary member of the Hungarian Radiology Society and of the Société Canadienne-Française de Radiologie and received Honorary Professorship from Nanjing University, China. Dr. Schoepf was elected Fellow of the American Heart Association, of the Society of Computed Body Tomography and MR, of the North American Society of Cardiovascular Imaging, and of the Society for Cardiovascular CT.

Dr. Schoepf has been named among the top 10 cardiovascular imagers worldwide by Medical Imaging Magazine. He has been continuously listed among the Best Doctors in America® since 2007 and was ranked as "Most Influential Radiology Researcher" by AuntMinnie.com.

Dr. Schoepf receives research support from and is a consultant for various manufacturers of medical imaging products, including Astellas, Bayer, Bracco, General Electric, Guerbet, Medrad, and Siemens.
