A familiar face will soon be returning to us here in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. Alice Hinton, MD, will be coming out of retirement to serve as an Associate Professor starting in April 2023.
Dr. Hinton has held several positions in the department and retired in 2021. She will rejoin us part-time, helping with staffing efforts in our Women’s Imaging section. Dr. Hinton's area of specialty practice is women’s imaging with a focus on breast imaging and obstetrical and gynecologic ultrasound.
“Dr. Hinton is an excellent clinician and educator,” says Chair Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair. “We are happy to bring her back as part-time faculty to support the growth of the department and medical center.”
A graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Hinton remained at VUMC for a two-year nuclear medicine residency before successfully completing a three-year diagnostic radiology residency in 1988.
Following residency, Dr. Hinton accepted appointment with Vanderbilt University Medical Center as Assistant Professor in Radiology and Radiological Sciences covering clinical service in Ultrasound. In 1989, she joined private practice at Radiology Alliance P.C. where she worked as a staff radiologist for fourteen years. From 1989 through 1993, she held a voluntary appointment with VUMC as Clinical Assistant Professor in Radiology and Radiological Sciences.
In 2003, Dr. Hinton returned to VUMC as Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, and in 2012, she was promoted to Associate Professor.
