Morgan Anderson, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology, has been appointed Medical Director of Vanderbilt Imaging Services (VIS).
Comprised of five outpatient imaging centers, VIS provides a full range of imaging services to patients throughout the Middle Tennessee region. As Medical Director, Dr. Anderson will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all day-to-day operations and staffing for those locations. He succeeds Jake Block, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology and Executive Medical Director for Vanderbilt Radiology, who held the position since 2009.
“We are delighted that Dr. Morgan Anderson will be serving in this new leadership role,” said Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair of Radiology. “As one of our residents, fellows, and faculty, he is a terrific example of how Vanderbilt Radiology cultivates leaders in our field. I would also like to thank Dr. Jake Block for his superb leadership previously in this role.”
Immediately prior to his appointment as Medical Director, Dr. Anderson served as Chief of the Outpatient Imaging section since in 2019. In an effort to expand subspecialty interpretations at VIS, the Outpatient Imaging section has since gradually dissolved, and been replaced with reads by faculty in the department’s existing subspecialty sections.
“As Section Chief, Dr. Anderson was instrumental championing VIS growth with emphasis on quality patient care while providing a positive experience for patients who choose to get their outpatient imaging performed at one of the VIS locations,” said Brenda Swift, President of VIS. “The VIS team, both management and clinic staff, are thrilled to welcome him in his new role. We look forward to working with and supporting his success as Medical Director of VIS.”
According to Dr. Anderson, consistent population growth in Middle Tennessee over the last few years has prompted the recent and ongoing expansion of VIS. In the last year alone, VIS expanded operations at One Hundred Oaks and acquired Outpatient Diagnostic Center, a new imaging site near downtown Nashville. Additional expansion of VIS in the coming years, he says, can be anticipated.
“I am looking forward to maintaining the Vanderbilt standard of care at our existing centers, and introducing it to new patient populations as VIS continues to grow,” said Dr. Anderson. “As the desire for patients to have imaging services closer to where they live and work continues, we can streamline their care within the Vanderbilt Health umbrella. This will allow us to align imaging protocols and offer more access to subspecialty interpretations across the region, which will result in more convenient care and hopefully better health outcomes for our patients.”
Dr. Anderson joined Vanderbilt as faculty in the Neuroradiology section in 2015. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and subsequently completed his diagnostic radiology residency and fellowship training at Vanderbilt. He is a member of the American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society and the American Society of Neuroradiology.
