Peter Bream, M.D., Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and Interventional Radiology Residency and Fellowship Program Director, was recently elected Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR).
One of the organization’s most prominent honors, FSIR designation is granted to less than 10 percent of SIR members. Recipients are chosen based on their outstanding contributions to the field of interventional radiology (IR), dedication to enhancing the specialty and accomplishments.
“This prestigious honor recognizes the considerable impact that Dr. Bream has on the national stage of interventional radiology,” said Reed Omary, M.D., M.S., Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair, Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences. “He is deeply committed to improving the lives of our patients, training the next generation of IR leaders and altering clinical practice through his research. We are so lucky to have him at Vanderbilt!”
Dr. Bream joined Vanderbilt in 2001, and has dedicated his time to providing clinical expertise and training, and actively pursuing leadership positions in his field. In addition, he contributed to the development of the department’s IR Residency program, which welcomed the country’s first IR resident this year.
“[His] enthusiasm for the field of Interventional Radiology is very apparent based on the ways [he has] contributed [his] time, talents and leadership to the ongoing development of our specialty,” wrote SIR Fellows’ Affairs Committee Chair Joshua Weintraub, M.D., FSIR. “The Fellowship Committee is very happy to be able to honor and celebrate [his] multiple achievements and success.”
Dr. Bream is expected to formally receive his award at the SIR’s 42nd Annual Scientific Meeting March 4-9 in Washington, D.C.
He joins department chair Dr. Omary and IR faculty Drs. Filip Banovac, Daniel Brown and Steven Meranze with FSIR designation.
