The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound elected VUMC’s Catherine Phillips, MD, Assistant Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Medical Director of Ultrasound, as an SRU Fellow at its annual conference in Phoenix. At the conference, Dr. Phillips also presented a fantastic Plenary Session on the Ovarian/Adnexal Reporting and Data System.
“It has been an absolute joy to be a part of the SRU committee and I am thrilled to be nominated and accepted as an SRU Fellow,” says Dr. Phillips. “I look forward to contributing to both the SRU and continuing the long history of ultrasound excellence at VUMC.”
SRU, a professional group comprised of radiologists with expertise in ultrasound who help ensure best practices in the field, nominates fellows by highlighting members who have been recognized as expert leaders and make “significant contributions” to the specialty.
These carefully selected fellows provide input to the industry and leading diagnostic imaging standards through consensus conference. The SRU Fellows are key to providing high quality education through participation in the annual program.
Prior to joining VUMC in 2021, Dr. Phillips served as the Medical Director of Ultrasound, the Co-Director of the High-Risk Obstetrical Ultrasound Unit and the Radiology Director of the Ultrasound Vascular lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School, where she also completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology. Dr. Phillips received her medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2012.
“Dr. Phillips was an outstanding medical student here when I first mentored her in the radiology rotation,” says Arthur Fleischer, MD, Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair, and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “She clearly was excited about ultrasound and obstetrical uses. We feel wonderfully fortunate that she’s returned and now is our medical director.”
Dr. Phillips joins VUMC faculty members Rochelle Andreotti, MD, Mariam Moshiri, MD, and Arthur Fleischer, MD as SRU Fellows. Dr. Fleischer, who is also Chair of the SRU Research Committee, is particularly proud of Dr. Phillips’ milestone.
“Receiving the fellowship, that is a major landmark honor,” says Dr. Fleischer. “For me personally, it’s about the warmest fuzzy feeling I could ever imagine. I’m just very proud of her.”
