The Department of Radiology today announces leadership changes for the Body Imaging section. Geoffrey Wile, M.D., Associate Professor of Clinical Radiology, has been named Director of Interventional Computed Tomography and Ultrasound. Christopher Jones, M.D., Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology, will take over for Wile as Body Imaging’s Section Chief, effective immediately.
“Due to the complexity of the section’s outpatient, hospital and procedural volumes, this is an ideal transition that will help streamline the service,” said Wile.
In his role, Wile will collaborate with Filip Banovac, M.D., FSIR, Associate Professor of Radiology and Interventional Radiology Section Chief, on the procedural needs while also helping Jones manage the integration of outpatient and ultrasound to the section.
“This new model will allow Dr. Jones to focus on the diagnostic needs of the section more effectively,” added Wile. “He brings a lot of leadership experience that will improve overall operations of the section moving forward.”
With the increase in patient volumes, and the department’s goal to expand subspecialty interpretations at Outpatient Imaging sites, Jones says this is both an exciting and challenging time for the Body Imaging Section.
“This transition must be balanced against the ongoing mission to provide a great educational experience for residents and fellows rotating in the Body section,” said Jones. “I am fortunate to have talented and enthusiastic team members in our section, and look forward to working closely with Dr. Wile and the other sections as we strive to improve the experience for patients, referring clinicians and trainees moving forward.”
Jones joined Vanderbilt Radiology faculty in 2018 from Johns Hopkins Hospital where he served as Director of Diagnostic Imaging at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus. He completed his residencies in Diagnostic and Transitional/Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and a fellowship in Cross Sectional Imaging at Johns Hopkins.
