The Department of Radiology last week hosted its annual Radiology Awards and Special Recognition Ceremony to honor faculty, staff and trainees who have gone above and beyond in the last year.
In his welcoming remarks, Rich Pierce, MBA, Department of Radiology Chief Finance and Administrative Officer said, “This ceremony recognizes colleagues who have done a great job in their roles by exemplifying the Medical Center’s Credo and upholding the Patient Promise.”
The awards that were presented include the Chairman’s Leadership Award; the O. Malcolm Sloan Outstanding Medical Imager Award; Radiology Resident of the Year Award; Modality/Section of the Year; Superior Commitment to Service; and Length of Service.
Award recipients, except those receiving the Superior Commitment to Service and/or Length of Service awards, were nominated for their award by radiology faculty, fellows, residents, nurses, technologists, sonographers and staff.
Department of Radiology Chairman Reed Omary, M.D., M.S., presented the Chairman’s Leadership Award to Sheryl Redlin-Frazier, RN, MSN, for her outstanding leadership, management, teamwork and diligence in preparation for the November 2017 transition to eStar.
The O. Malcolm Sloan Outstanding Medical Imager Award was awarded to Mackenzie Riggs, RT (R) (AART), a lead fluoroscopy technologist, for her exceptional medical imaging skills, strong work ethic and commitment to delivering patient-centered care.
Radiology Residency Program Director Edwin Donnelly, M.D., Ph.D., presented the Radiology Resident of the Year Award to third-year diagnostic radiology resident Erik Landman, M.D., for his radiologist-like knowledge, genuine concern for his patients, and interactions and professionalism with his colleagues.

The ceremony, which is usually held annually during November’s Radiology Week, is another opportunity for the department to publicly demonstrate its appreciation for all the people who come together to help care for Vanderbilt Radiology patients.
“The little things you do – a smile, a ‘hello,’ helping someone find their way to their appointment – make a big difference to patients and their families,” Pierce said in his closing remarks. “So I really want to thank each of you for all the big things you do every day to give patients the best possible experience while they’re here.”
