Department of Radiology Hosts Recognition Ceremony for Graduating Residents and Fellows

The Department of Radiology recently hosted its annual graduation ceremony and reception in recognition of this year’s graduating residents and fellows.

Approximately 150 faculty, friends and family attended the event, held at the University Club of Nashville Ballroom, where they enjoyed an evening of dinner, drinks and music to celebrate eight resident and 13 fellow graduates.

During the ceremony, graduates were individually recognized for their achievements and were presented with a certificate of completion by Radiology Residency Program Director Edwin Donnelly, M.D., Ph.D., or their respective fellowship program director.

“This has been an amazing class, and it has been wonderful working with them over the past four years,” said Donnelly.

For this year’s class of graduating residents, the evening also marked the beginning of a new chapter as they each prepare for fellowship programs at institutions around the country, including Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas and in private practice.

“It is wonderful that so many of our residency and fellowship graduates will be in town, and it is sad to say goodbye to those who are moving on, but they have such exciting careers ahead of them that I can’t wait to see all the things they accomplish,” added Donnelly.

In his closing remarks, Reed Omary, M.D., M.S., Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair, Department of Radiology, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to stay engaged with the department and with the Vanderbilt community.

“Our residents and fellows have done outstanding work, and have made huge contributions to the department,” said Omary. “We wish them much success as they pursue the next step in their careers as radiology leaders.”

Other special highlights of the night included the unveiling of the senior composite and the presentation of special recognition awards. Special recognition awards were presented to the following graduates and faculty for their contributions in research and education for the department:
