Congratulations to second-year Diagnostic Radiology Resident Heather Cole, MD, who has been selected as this year’s Deitte INSPIRE Resident Award recipient.
As part of the Deitte INSPIRE (INspiring Stories of Purposeful leadership In Radiology that Empower) Lectureship series, this award is given to a female radiology resident who exemplifies all the qualities of a leader.
Along with this recognition, Dr. Cole will receive a tuition stipend to participate in the ACR Radiology Leadership Institute. She will also receive mentorship from this year’s lecturer, Carolyn Meltzer, MD, Dean of Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.
“I am very grateful to receive this award,” says Dr. Cole. “Meeting Dr. Meltzer was such an honor and I am thrilled to participate in the ACR's radiology leadership program.”
Dr. Cole was chosen because of her dedicated work in the field, where she's helped create and implement an ultrasound clinic at the student-ran health care center. The Shade Tree Clinic provides free healthcare to Nashville’s uninsured population.
“Dr. Cole’s past endeavors and commitment to her patients and peers exemplifies the qualities of a leader,” says Courtney Tomblinson, MD, Chair of the Deitte INSPIRE Lectureship Committee. “We are excited to support her continued leadership growth during her training and beyond.”
The Deitte INSPIRE Lecture was created in 2022 by Dr. Mark Rice as a tribute to his father-in-law and Dr. Lori Deitte’s late father, Rolland J. Deitte.
“The lectureship features radiology leaders and their success stories,” says Lori Deitte, VUMC Vice President for Continuous Professional Development and Radiology Vice Chair of Education. “The purpose is to inspire and empower participants to believe in themselves. I am thrilled that Dr. Cole is this year’s award recipient.”
