Second-year diagnostic radiology resident Meaghan Magarik, M.D., Ph.D., will participate in the Introduction to Academic Radiology Program (ITAR) at the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) Annual Meeting next week in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Co-sponsored by the ARRS, the Radiological Society of North America and the Association of University Radiologists, the program introduces second-year residents to academic radiology. The program emphasizes the important role research plays in diagnostic radiology, discusses benefits and opportunities of a career in academic radiology and allows participants to network with successful radiology researchers.
“I will use this opportunity to join the ITAR program to increase my knowledge, form collaborations and mentorships with faculty and fellow participants, and to develop new skill sets that will better prepare me to succeed in my future career in academic radiology,” said Magarik. “I’m excited to spend the week in New Orleans for the conference!”
Dr. Magarik was nominated by the department to attend the program. Only one nomination per department is allowed. The department will also receive $1,000 to go towards the advancement of Dr. Magarik’s academic career.
Since beginning residency, Magarik has utilized knowledge of the research process she gained while earning her Ph.D. to collaborate on several projects within the department. She is hopeful that the program will provide her with additional knowledge to become a more efficient grant and manuscript writer, and help her develop new ideas for future research projects.
“Meaghan has been extremely productive so far in her residency, and this course will be a great way for her to learn more about the exciting opportunities available to her as a future academic radiologist,” said Ed Donnelly, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor and Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program Director. “We are all very excited to see what the future holds for her.”
