Marta Hernanz-Schulman, M.D., FACR, FAAP, Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics, was named Vice President of the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Board of Chancellors (BOC) at the ACR 2018 Annual Meeting last month in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Schulman, who also serves as chief of Pediatric Radiology and Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, was nominated for the position by ACR’s Nominating Committee. In her one-year term as an officer of the College, she will be an active member on the Executive Committee of the ACR’s Board of Chancellors, and will be liaison to the Canadian Association of Radiologists, serving as a member of their Board of Directors.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity to serve the Board in this new capacity,” said Dr. Schulman. “I look forward to working with the other newly-elected officers this year, including the BOC’s first female chair, Geraldine McGinty, MD., MBA, FACR. These are challenging times, and I look forward to facing those challenges, and to the opportunities that lie ahead. ”
Dr. Schulman has served in, or chaired, multiple national committees, including the ACR Ultrasound Accreditation, Pediatric Radiology Guidelines, Radiology National in-Service Examination and Skills-Assessment Committee, the ABR Committee on Pediatric Radiology Maintenance of Certification, and the program committees of the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR), Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and American Roentgen Ray Society. She is also an elected Fellow of the ACR and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She received the Presidential Recognition Award from the SPR for her work with SPR’s journal Pediatric Radiology; she is a past member of the Editorial Board of RSNA’s Radiology and a current member of the Editorial Board of Pediatric Radiology. She has served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Society for Pediatric Radiology. As a founding member and Steering Committee member of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging, she led the Pause and Pulse Campaign for radiation protection in pediatric fluoroscopy, which was granted the Aunt Minnie Award for best philanthropic campaign in 2011. Most recently, Dr. Schulman served two terms as the Chair of the Pediatric Commission as a member of the ACR’s Board of Chancellors.
