Kristin O’Grady, PhD, Research Instructor in Radiology, and second-year diagnostic radiology resident (DR) Hazel Asumu, MD, have been selected to participate in Introduction to Academic Radiology programs at the Radiological Society of North America’s (RSNA) Annual Meeting this week in Chicago.
Dr. O’Grady will participate in the Introduction to Academic Radiology for Scientists (ITARSc) workshop designed to prepare PhDs in imaging research and biomedical engineering for careers in imaging science. Programming will be comprised of didactic lectures on topics related to career advancement, clinical and commercial partnerships, and networking. Dr. O’Grady will also attend shared learning sessions with residents in the Introduction to Academic Radiology (ITAR) program, including Dr. Asumu.
“This will be my first time attending the RSNA annual meeting,” said Dr. O’Grady. “I’m excited that I get to spend much of the week with the ITARSc program, meeting leaders in academic radiology and fellow early-career imaging scientists in a smaller group setting.”
The ITAR program, co-sponsored by RSNA, the Association of University Radiologists and the American Roentgen Ray Society, is open to second-year radiology, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine residents who have expressed an interest in academic medicine.
“I’m very excited to be a part of this year’s ITAR program through RSNA,” said Dr. Asumu. “I am looking forward to learning more about academic radiology, as well as meeting with new friends and mentors.”
The objective of the ITAR program is to give residents an early look at the many facets of academic radiology, including how to plan for clinical research, publish a manuscript and professional development. Participants will have the opportunity to network with researchers in ITARSc, potential mentors and colleagues from institutions across the United States and Canada.
“I attended ITAR at RSNA 2018, and it was an amazing experience,” said Ryan Adams, MD, third-year DR resident. “There was a ton of learning for those of us aspiring for careers as academic radiologists. I’m so happy Hazel will have the opportunity to do the same at RSNA 2019!”
