Reagan Leverett, MD, MS, Associate Professor of Radiology and Radiological Sciences and Medical director of Vanderbilt Breast Imaging Services, has been named chief of the Section of Breast Imaging, a position she previously held on an interim basis.
In her new role, Leverett oversees day-to-day operations and planning for the Vanderbilt Breast Center and acts as a liaison between the center’s staff, radiologists and the chair of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences.
“Vanderbilt’s radiology program is highly respected across the United States within academia. However, we must also compete with several large for-profit systems in Middle Tennessee to provide exemplary care to maintain, if not grow, market share,” said Leverett.
“Having previously owned and operated a breast imaging center, I am hoping to leverage my prior business experience with the unique perspective of a female breast imager, injecting new energy to the future development of our breast imaging service.”
In addition to her new role, Leverett serves as the lead interpreting physician for the Mammography Quality Standards Act for Vanderbilt Imaging Services, Vanderbilt Breast Center One Hundred Oaks, Vanderbilt Franklin Women’s Center and The Vanderbilt Clinic.
She also serves as a member of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Physician Council for Clinical Service Excellence and is the site principal investigator for the Tomosynthesis Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial (TMIST), a multi-institutional breast center trial to determine whether digital mammography should be replaced by the 3D X-ray technique known as tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening.
